CHAPTER 5 Eliphaz Continues to Speak

1 But call, if any one will hearken to you; or if [²any ⁴angels ³holy ¹you shall see]. 2 For even [³a fool ²does away with ¹anger], [⁴one having wandered ¹and ³puts to death ²zeal]. 3 And I have seen fools [²root ¹laying]; and I cursed their attractiveness immediately. 4 [⁴at a distance ¹May ³be ²their sons] from safety, and they shall be crushed at the doors of lesser men, and there shall not be one rescuing. 5 [³which ¹For ²those things] they harvested, one hungering shall eat; but they [²to ³ones armed ¹shall be carried]; may [³be siphoned off ¹their ²strength]. 6 [⁴not ¹For ³can ⁵come forth ⁶out of ⁷the ⁸earth ²toil], nor [³from ⁴the mountains ²sprout up ¹shall misery]. 7 But a man is born to toil, and the young eagles [²the ³high places ¹to fly]; 8 [²nevertheless ¹but] I shall beseech of the lord, [³the lord ¹and ⁴the ⁵master of all ²I shall call upon], 9 the one doing great things, and untraceable, honorable things also, and extraordinary, which there is no number; 10 the one giving rain upon the earth, sending water upon the places under heaven; 11 the one appointing the humble unto the height, and [²the ones perishing ¹raising up], 12 effacing counsels of clever ones, that in no way should [²perform ¹their hands] true; 13 the one overtaking the wise with the intellect; and the counsel of the crafty ones he amazes. 14 By day [²shall meet ³them ¹darkness], and at midday may they grope equally as at night. 15 And may they perish in war; and may the powerless come forth from out of the hand of the mighty one. 16 And may there be [²to the poor ¹hope]; [⁴of the unjust ¹but ³the mouth ²may] be obstructed. 17 And blessed is the man whom [³reproved ¹the ² lord], [⁴the admonition ¹and ⁵of the almighty ²does not ³refuse]. 18 For he [²one to ache ¹causes], and again he restores; he smites, and his hands heal. 19 Six times [²from out of ³your distresses ¹he rescues you], and in the seventh time in no way will he touch you for bad. 20 In famine, he will rescue you from death, [²in ³war ¹and ⁶from out of ⁷the hand ⁸of iron ⁴he will untie ⁵you]. 21 [²from ³the whip ⁴of the tongue ¹He shall hide you], and in no way shall you be fearful from [²evils ¹the coming]. 22 The unjust and lawless you shall ridicule, and from [²beasts ¹wild] in no way shall you be fearful; 23 for the beasts of the wild shall make peace with you. 24 Then you shall know that [³shall be at peace ¹your ²house]; and he shall visit your beauty, and in no way should it have sinned. 25 And you shall know that [²shall be many ¹your seed], and your progeny will be as the abundant herbage of the field. 26 And you shall come unto the grave as grain in season, according to the time of harvesting; or as a heap of the threshing-floor according to the hour of its being collected. 27 Behold, these things thus we tracked out, these things are what we have heard; but you, know in yourself if you acted in anything!
